ON YOUR DEVICE
Where your work lives
Your decks, documents, designs, notes and plans are saved locally. Your brand kit and workspace preferences are also held on your device. Creating or editing a file does not, by itself, publish it.
In the desktop app
Work is saved as files in Documents/SLATENO, or the workspace folder you choose. Back that folder up as you would any important files.
In a browser
Work is saved in that browser's storage. Clearing site data can remove it. Export a copy of anything you want to keep or move.
Other services can be involved when you use optional features. The sections below explain fonts, speech, connected agents separately.
WHAT REACHES US
The data behind the service
Local documents and service data are different things. We need some information to operate accounts, understand product use and respond to feedback.
- Account basics
- Your name, email and region help us manage your account. A first-party session cookie keeps you signed in on the web; the desktop app uses a token stored through your system's keychain.
- Account emails
- When email delivery is enabled, Brevo processes your email address and the verification or recovery message to deliver account emails. Your password and document content are never sent to the mail provider. Verification codes expire after 10 minutes, address-specific send counters at the end of the UTC day, and aggregate counters at the end of the UTC month. Expired records are cleared by subsequent email requests or scheduled maintenance. Brevo measures delivery and aggregate opens and clicks; engagement tracking is configured to be anonymous. These messages do not subscribe you to marketing.
- Signup mobile number
- If you provide a mobile number during signup, it is stored privately with your account on our server. It is optional and unverified, is included in your account statement, and is deleted when you delete your account. It is not shown to other users, sent to AI providers or included in usage logs.
- Policy agreement
- When you create an account, we record the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy versions you agreed to and the time of acceptance. This private record is included in your account statement and deleted with your account. Agreement does not enable optional cookies or change your AI data-sharing choice.
- Profile picture
- If you add an avatar, it is stored with your account and can appear to people in your workspace. It is not sent to an AI provider or included in logs. Remove it from Profile at any time.
- Desktop usage & diagnostics
- Feature use, app version, operating system, errors and crashes help us understand and improve the app. Records can also include an installation identifier, language, time zone and country information supplied by our hosting provider. These records are linked to the account sending them; they do not contain your document text.
- Feedback
- We store the message you send through Feedback & Help, the page it came from and your account, so we can respond. Document content is not attached automatically. Include only the information you want to send us.
- Product milestones
- We record first-party events such as visits, sign-ups, first creation and first export. Campaign tags or referring sites may be included. These events describe product use, not the contents of your work.
Desktop diagnostics are on by default.
Switch off “Send usage & diagnostics from the desktop app” in Account → Preferences. Turning it off stops new collection and clears queued events that have not been sent. It does not delete records already received.
Open PreferencesYour optional profile details stay local
Your role, organisation, timezone, mobile number and secondary email entered in Profile are stored on your device. The optional mobile number collected during signup is stored separately with your server account, as described above. Contact details are private by default. These details are not sent to AI models, written to logs or used for marketing. They travel in your own workspace export, but not in files you share with other people. The account deletion flow removes the local profile.
WHEN THE APP CONNECTS
Fonts and network requests
Manual editing keeps your document content on your device. One thing that reaches out mid-edit is fetching a Google font you picked for the first time. That request carries the typeface's name and nothing else from your document.
Desktop
Font files are fetched directly from Google. Google can see your IP address and the requested typeface. Downloaded fonts can be reused from the local cache.
Web
The browser requests fonts through our server. Our server fetches them from Google and returns the files, so the browser does not contact Google directly for fonts.
Accounts, updates, feedback and enabled diagnostics also need network connections. Local editing does not mean that the entire app is always offline. Review where your work is stored.
YOUR MICROPHONE & SYSTEM VOICES
Dictation and read aloud
Voice features work in English in decks, documents and notes, where supported by your browser or system. You can turn them off in Account → Preferences → Voice.
When you dictate
Your browser or system provides speech recognition. Audio may be processed by that provider's servers; the behaviour depends on your browser and system. SLATENO does not receive or store the microphone audio. The recognised text is saved in your own work. The control shows when it is listening, and Escape stops it.
When you listen
Read aloud uses voices supplied by your browser or system. Some are local; remote voices may send text to the voice provider. SLATENO does not route that text through its own speech server. Check your system's voice settings before reading sensitive material aloud.
Technical reference: speech recognition and local and remote voices.
If desktop diagnostics are enabled, we record that dictation or read aloud was started and the kind of editor. We do not record the words as part of those events.
A CONNECTION YOU ENABLE
AI agents you connect
You can let an external AI agent work with decks, documents and notes through the desktop app's local Model Context Protocol connection. It is off until you enable it in Account → Preferences → Connect an AI assistant.
The endpoint runs on your computer and requires an access token. You can turn it off or regenerate the token. The connection exposes supported workspace tools; it does not give the agent general access to your computer's files or the app's internals.
Local connection. Separate provider.
An agent may send the content it reads to its own AI provider. That provider's terms govern its processing. This traffic does not pass through SLATENO's server.
With diagnostics enabled, the app can report connection changes, client identity, tool names and whether calls were accepted or refused. Those events do not include the document content exchanged with the agent.
THE CURRENT APP
Editing and your content
Built-in AI generation and editing are not enabled in the current app. Your work is not used to train models by SLATENO.
An external agent you enable is a separate connection and may use its own AI provider. Likewise, speech features use your browser's or system's services. These are choices you make separately from manual editing.

WHAT STAYS, WHAT GOES
Keeping and deleting data
- Your local work: keep, export, back up or delete it yourself. Copies you export, send to others or back up outside the app remain wherever you put them.
- Feedback: resolved feedback is deleted after 180 days. Account deletion also removes your feedback.
- Account deletion: the data controls report the result of each deletion step. If a step fails, follow the retry instructions before assuming it is complete. Signing out is not the same as deleting your account.
Turning off future diagnostics is different from deleting an account. For questions about information the service already holds, use Help.
